Fabric of Goodison inspires Everton 2019-20 home kit
Everton and Umbro have released the Blues’ new 2019-20 home kit – combining iconic and identifiable elements of Goodison Park with a bold new design twist.
The 2019-20 kit – which will be worn for the first time when Everton face Kariobangi Sharks in the SportPesa Trophy this Sunday - offers a break away from the traditional solid Blue body of the shirt, with Umbro sticking to their design ethos of creating differentiation through insight.
Instead, Goodison Park’s iconic girders, designed by architect Archibald Leitch, inspire a modern graphic that appears prominently on the chest. Royal blue dominates the rest of the shirt, while highlights on the sleeve cuffs and along the stylised crew neckline showcase the modern graphic seamlessly.
Supporters can pre-order the 2019-20 home kit from 9am today (Thursday 4 July) by calling the Everton One and Everton Two stores or visiting evertondirect.com. The kit will be in stores from Thursday 18 July.
The new shirt also achieves a retro feel with a nod back to the 90s - the back of the neck EFC sign-off detail is taken from the Club’s classic 1991-1993 home kit.
White shorts and socks with a royal blue turn over complete the new strip, which also benefits from new manufacturing techniques and material.
To aid performance, a base layer has been built in to ensure zonal performance: natural wicking fabrics work in tandem with zonal mechanical stretch. This material is teamed with a lightweight jersey to create two-piece layering, brought to life with one-way moisture fabrics, enhanced fit and abrasion resistant trims.
Alan McTavish, Commercial Director at Everton, said: “For the 2019-20 season we are combining Umbro’s innovative kit manufacturing techniques and performance enhancing material with a design that encompasses both our proud history and our ambitions for the future.
“The crisscross Archibald Leitch girders are synonymous with any match day at Goodison Park. They are a symbol of the unwavering support and strength of our fanbase. Incorporating the design on our shirt for 2019-20 connects the passion of our players, our fans and the Club as a whole, as we move into the new season as an ambitious and forward-looking club.”
Midfielder Tom Davies added: “I really like how Umbro have blended a retro feel into a modern kit, and I think the fans will like it, too. To Everton fans, the Archibald Leitch girders are an iconic part of our historic home and it’s great to see them brought to life in our new home kit.”
Robin Dunn, Head of Performance at Umbro UK said “We knew we wanted to do something different, distinctive and bold with the man body of the jersey for the 19/20 season, and we really wanted to connect the fans and players through the iconic stadium architecture and the club’s proud history with Umbro as a brand, 2 things that really feed well into our ‘Built to Last theme’ for the kit launch.
“We hope the new 19/20 strip will strike a chord with the Goodison faithful and fans further afield to create new and lasting memories both on and off the pitch.”
To celebrate the launch of the new strip, Everton and Umbro have produced St. Domingo, a limited edition shirtzine based on the Built to Last theme which includes exclusive interviews, features and an insight into the design of the shirt.
The shirtzine is a magazine devoted to the new kit and contains interviews with Davies, Richarlison, and Seamus Coleman, alongside Umbro designer Bryony Coates and lifelong Everton fans.
Only 1878 first edition copies of St. Domingo have been printed – fans should keep an eye on evertonfc.com and the Club’s social media channels to find out where they can get theirs.
