It’s been 23 years but Boca Juniors are to finally end their Partnership with Nike. Yep, 23 years – that’s sometime with one kit manufacturer. However, money, as always, talks. So with a deal worth some $100 million (at the very least) it appears adidas, (according to the video) is the new partner of the South American club, for the next ten years.
The German brand last partnered with the club from 1979 all the way through to 1993. The brand Nolan then stepped in for a time ahead of the swoosh brand stepping in at the start of the 1996 season.
The former adidas/boca years saw the original GOAT – Diego Maradona emerge as the next big thing in world football. The return of the three stripes is allegedly netting the Juniors $10 million (US) a season along with a royalty income from shirt sales worldwide.
Boca rivals River Plate already wear the three stripes so it’s quite the statement by the German sporting giant. You can expect to see the new shirt on shelves very soon – let’s hope for an 80’s throwback.
