The Netherlands national football team is controlled by the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB). One of the most successful teams in international football, the Netherlands have reached the final of the World Cup three times and have also won the 1988 UEFA European Championship.

Throughout its history, the Netherlands have been led by some of the greatest players in the game, including Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten, and Dennis Bergkamp. These players have helped establish the Netherlands as a dominant force in international football and have contributed to the team's success in major tournaments.

Cruyff is widely considered to be one of the best players of all time and had a major impact on the Netherlands team during his international career. He was part of the Netherlands team that reached the World Cup final in 1974, during this tournament he dazzled the world and Sweden fullback, Jan Olsson, when he turned the defender inside out with the skill now known as the Cruyff Turn.

At the individual level, Cruyff was awarded the Ballon d'Or award three times and was inducted into the FIFA World Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He was known for his technical skills, vision, and creativity, which made him a valuable asset for the Netherlands.
