Hugo Sánchez began his professional career with Pumas before becoming one of Mexico's greatest ever footballers. Goalkeeper Jorge Campos also came through the club, bringing exactly the sort of personality you'd expect from a man who later designed some of football's wildest goalkeeper shirts.

Later generations brought players such as Darío Verón, while league titles and huge Liga MX fixtures kept Pumas firmly among Mexico's major clubs.
