São Paulo FC is one of the most successful and popular soccer clubs in Brazil. The club was founded in 1930 and has a rich history of success in Brazilian soccer. Some of the historical players who have played for the club include Rai, Kaka, Cafu, Leonardo, Rodrigo Ceni, Juninho Paulista, Denilson and Edmilson. Historical managers have included Telê Santana, who led the club to several national and international titles in the 1990s, and Muricy Ramalho, who won several national titles in the 2000s.
Kaka was one of São Paulo’s greatest exports. He began his professional career with São Paulo in 2001, where he quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young players in Brazilian football. He played for São Paulo for two seasons, during which time he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2002, and the Copa Sudamericana in the same year. He was also the winner of the Bola de Ouro award for the best player in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2002. He was signed by AC Milan in 2003, bringing an end to his brief but highly successful stint with São Paulo.
During his time with São Paulo, Kaka established himself as a creative and technically gifted midfielder with an eye for goal, he showcased his skills and quickly caught the attention of many clubs around the world. He made a total of 78 appearances for São Paulo in all competitions and scored 28 goals, becoming a fan favourite and a key player for the team. His performances earned him the reputation as one of the best young players in the world and he was soon dubbed as "the new Ronaldo". He returned to São Paulo in 2014 on loan from Orlando City.
São Paulo FC have won several major trophies throughout its history, including twenty-two Campeonato Paulista titles, three Copa Libertadores titles, one FIFA Club World Cup titles, and two Intercontinental Cup. The club plays its home matches at the Morumbi Stadium, which has a capacity of over 60,000 spectators. The club is nicknamed "Paulista Tricolor" in reference to the home shirt colours of red, white, and black.
In recent years, São Paulo have been led by star players such as Alexandre Pato, Hernanes, Lucas Moura and Julio Baptista. The team has also been managed by notable coaches such as André Jardine and Fernando Diniz.

São Paulo shirts underwent a drastic design change when two clubs, Club Athletico Paulistano and Associação Atlética das Palmeiras, joined forces, the new team, São Paulo, inherited their colours. The colours of red and white from CA Paulistano and black and white from AA das Palmeiras were integrated into the new team's colours. These colours match the colours of the flag of the state of São Paulo and also symbolize the three main ethnic groups that lived in Brazil at that time: indigenous Brazilians, white Brazilians, and Afro-Brazilians.
The home shirt is traditionally white with a black and red stripe, the away shirt is predominantly red and black with white pin stripes. Recent 3rd shirts have usually been black.
