Cult Icons: 1998-1999 Manchester United Shirt

The Red Devils, The Theatre of Dreams, Sir Alex Ferguson and the Manchester United 1998-1999 football kits, a match made in heaven.

Just reading those words brings back flashes of Scholes raking a pass out to Giggs on the wing, Dwight Yorke powering a header into the top-bins and Old Trafford erupting to its feet. This was a golden era of English football, immortalised forever in the Manchester United 1999 kit collection.

Lets find out why...

MAN UNITED

We're big fans of 90's football and more specifically, 90's Umbro football shirts. And the Manchester United 1999 collection, home kit, away kit, third kit and Champions League Final kit, were some of the most iconic Umbro shirts the decade had to offer. They were also worn by some of the biggest names out there; think Beckham, Scholes and Giggs.

Manchester United won pretty much everything in these shirts: the Premier League, FA Cup and the illustrious Champions League. Sir Alex Ferguson was at the peak of his powers, earning a knighthood and the Freedom of the City of Glasgow in November 1999. All because of his Manchester United 1999 team and that famous red, white and black.

After failing to win a trophy in the 97/98 season, lifting the Premier League trophy was a sweet, sweet triumph for the Manchester United 1999 team. They pipped bitter rivals Arsenal to the crown with only a point separating the sides. A season highlight was a run of 33 games unbeaten in all competitions, which began at Old Trafford on 26 December. That famous white, black and red Umbro away shirt got a run out in a 8-1 away victory over Nottingham Forest.

MAN U CHAMPIONS 98/99

Manchester United have won 12 FA Cups and in the 98/99 season, they picked up their 10th. The Red Devils faced a difficult run to the final, facing Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal before eventually meeting Alan Shearer's Newcastle in the old-school Wembley. Goals from Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes gave Manchester United a 2–0 win.
