UC Sampdoria is an Italian professional football club based in Genoa, Italy. The club was founded in 1946 and has a rich history in Italian football. Throughout the years, the club has had a number of successful players and managers, and has won several major trophies.

Some of the historical players who have played for the club include Roberto Mancini, Attilio Lombardo, Gianluca Vialli, Vincenzo Montella, Angelo Palombo, Clarence Seedorf, Juan Sebastian Veron and Ariel Ortega. These players were known for their skill, technical abilities and leadership on the field, and have become fan favorites and legends of the club. Historical managers have included Vujadin Boškov, who won the Serie A in 1991 and Sven-Göran Eriksson, who won the Coppa Italia in 1994. In more recent seasons the club have dropped down the Italy’s 2nd division, Serie B, where they spent a four-year stint at the turn of the 21st century.

Gianluca Vialli joined the club in 1984 and quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young players in Italian football. He played for Sampdoria for seven seasons, during which time he won numerous individual and team honors, and helped lead the club to some of its greatest successes.

During his time with UC Sampdoria, Vialli established himself as a prolific goal-scorer, and a creative and technically gifted forward. He had a great partnership with Roberto Mancini, his scoring ability and his leadership helped the team to become one of the top teams in Italy. He was the top scorer of the club for several seasons and was the captain of the team from 1986 to 1992. He made a total of 275 appearances for Sampdoria in all competitions and scored 103 goals, becoming a fan favorite and a key player for the team. His performances for Sampdoria earned him numerous individual awards, including the Italian Footballer of the Year award in 1989 and the Golden Foot award in 1991, and team awards including the Serie A title in 1991 and the Coppa Italia in 1985 and 1988, and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1989.

Vialli's time with UC Sampdoria was one of the most successful and memorable periods in the club's history. His goal-scoring ability, leadership, and technical skills made him one of the most respected and admired players in Italian football. He was sold to Juventus in 1992 and continued to have a successful career, but his time at Sampdoria will always be remembered as one of the highlights of his career.

The club plays its home matches at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, which has a capacity of over 36,000 spectators. The stadium is located in the city of Genoa and is known for its passionate and vocal fans. The club is nicknamed "Blucerchiati" in reference to the club's home shirt colours of blue and white.

The home shirt is traditionally blue with a black, white and red stripe across the chest, the away shirt is predominantly white with red, blue and black stripes.
