Club America are given the Germany World Cup 1994 treatment by Nike, for the release of their 2020 third shirt. Don’t get too excited though my European friends – as it looks like it’s only going to be available within South America.
First things first – it’s a bloody lovely shirt. Even if it does look as though it’s being attacked by sponsors. Yes, we know, it’s the way in South America – and the shirts there are often the cooler for it. But with this one, it feels as though they’re simply spoiling the shirt. But don’t worry, we’ll get over it. Eventually.
The triangular pattern graphic to the upper chest screams Germany 1994 – a beauty of a design the DFB Team wore in the US for the World Cup. So the turquoise colour for the overall colourway only adds to the flashback. We’d like to reiterate – this is no bad thing!
A smart black trim on the collar and shirt cuffs, accompanied by the usual dosage of chest and sleeve sponsors – does the job in making the shirt a likely classic in the South American shirt hall of fame.
Want it? Make friends with someone in that glorious part of the world. And very fucking quickly, as these aren’t likely to hang around. Or keep your eye on eBay where you’ll likely see one available, for double the price. C’est la vie.
