Raul Gonzalez, El Capitan, made over 100 senior appearances for Spain scoring 44 goals. In 2002 it was announced that Raul would become Spain's captain before the World Cup in Japan/Korea, a controversial decision made by Jose Antonio Camacho, with current captain Fernando Hierro in fine form in front of goal. Raul remained captain until his retirement from the national team in 2006, with legendary keeper, Iker Casillas, taking on the role for Spain's future World Cup and European dominance.
