David Trezeguet made his senior international debut in 1998 at the age of 21 and featured in France's victory at the 1998 World Cup. At the following Euro's Trezeguet came on as a late substitute in the final and scored a golden goal in the 103rd minute of extra time, defeating Italy 2-1. He scored a total of 34 goals in 71 appearances for the French national team. He retired in 2008 because he did not like the reappointment of coach Raymond Domenech, who did not select him for UEFA Euro 2008.
