Genoa Cricket and Football Club, more commonly known as Genoa, is an Italian professional football club based in Genoa, Liguria. It was founded in 1893 and is one of the oldest clubs in Italian football. Genoa's home ground is the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, which has a capacity of 36,599. The club's nickname is the Il Grifone, meaning the Griffin, in reference to the city's emblem.
Throughout its history, Genoa has won nine Serie A titles, six Serie B titles and one Coppa Italia. The club's most successful period was in the early late 1890s and 1900s when they won 3 back to back league titles either side of the centaury, making them one of the dominant teams in Italian football during this era. Some of the most notable players from this period include James Spensley and Luigi Ferraris.
In recent years, Genoa has been led by a number of successful managers, including Gian Piero Gasperini who led the side back to the Serie A in 2006/07. Recent manager Davide Ballardini has also been credited with bringing a sense of stability to the club, helping them to achieve mid-table finishes in recent seasons. The club is currently managed by ex-player Alberto Gilardino.
Some of Genoa's most notable recent players include Diego Milito, who played for the club on two different occasions in 2003 and the second stint in 2008. Another star player was Thiago Motta, who was part of the club's successful team in the late 2000s and later went on to play for Paris Saint-Germain.
Currently, Genoa has a number of talented players in its squad, including forward Massimo Coda and midfielder Milan Badelj, both of whom have been instrumental in the club's recent success. Genoa has also been home to a number of talented young players, including Stefano Sturaro, who has since gone on to play for Juventus and Atletico Madrid, and is not back with Genoa as club captain.

The home shirt is traditionally red and blue half and half, the away shirt is predominantly white with a red and blue stripe across the chest.
