Football style beyond the shirt
The shirt gets most of the attention. The jacket is where things get interesting.
Football training wear has always occupied a slightly different world to the match kit. These were the pieces worn during warm-ups, on the training ground, travelling to away games and standing around the touchline on freezing European nights.
Years later, that gives them a completely different character.
A vintage football jacket can instantly place you in an era. Oversized Umbro sleeves. adidas Three Stripes running from collar to cuff. Bold Nike colour blocking. Embroidered club badges, old sponsor logos and silhouettes that bear very little resemblance to today's fitted performance gear.
And unlike many match shirts, plenty of these pieces work just as well away from football.
The 90s did football tracksuits properly
Subtle wasn't really the idea.
The 1990s gave us some of the greatest football tracksuits and training jackets ever made: huge cuts, loud panels, shiny fabrics, zipped collars and enough geometric graphics to cover an entire team bus.
Brands such as adidas, Umbro, Nike, Puma and Reebok weren't afraid to experiment, which is why so many jackets from the period now feel completely distinctive.
Club identity came through just as strongly as it did on the shirt. A vintage Manchester United Umbro jacket immediately takes you back to the Sharp era, while old Arsenal training wear carries the same appeal as the club's famous Nike and adidas kits.
Some designs were restrained. Plenty weren't.
We prefer the latter.
Club football, but away from matchday
Training collections also gave manufacturers more freedom.
Home shirts had traditions to respect. Training wear didn't.
That meant unusual colours, oversized crests, asymmetric panels and designs that might never have made it onto a match shirt. It is why a Barcelona track jacket or vintage Juventus training top can feel familiar and completely different at the same time.
They're recognisably part of the club without simply being another version of the home kit.
For collectors, that makes them particularly interesting. For everyone else, they're just very good jackets.
International tracksuits hit differently
Then there are national teams.
Tournament football produced some outstanding training wear, particularly during the 1990s and early 2000s. Players arriving at World Cups and European Championships in matching adidas tracksuits became as much a part of the visual memory of a tournament as the kits themselves.
Think classic France windbreakers, Umbro-era Scotland, Nike Italy or the unmistakable simplicity of old Germany adidas gear.
International football jackets also tend to wear brilliantly as everyday clothing. There is something about a national crest and a simple track top that avoids looking overly "matchday", even when the piece is decades old.
When football became fashion
Long before football shirts became a regular sight at festivals, fashion weeks and in streetwear editorials, supporters were already wearing track jackets away from the ground.
That crossover has only become stronger.
Vintage football clothing now sits comfortably alongside trainers, denim and sportswear because many of the best pieces were good clothing first and football merchandise second. An old Marseille jacket doesn't need a match to justify wearing it.
Original football jackets. No reproductions pretending to be vintage.
Condition varies. That's part of buying genuine vintage clothing.
What doesn't vary is authenticity.
Every football jacket, tracksuit and training top in this collection is sourced and checked before it reaches the site. These are original pieces from their respective eras or clearly identified official reissues where applicable - not modern copies being passed off as vintage.
