Born and raised in Colombia, B1CKLE grew up with three obsessions that continue to shape his work today: football, drawing and cinema.
From a young age, football meant both playing and watching, while much of his time away from the pitch was spent drawing, inspired by cartoons, films and the characters that captured his imagination.
Cinema became a particularly important influence. For years, Eddy was drawn to illustrating films and their characters, and even his name comes from the movies: B1CKLE is a nod to Travis Bickle, Robert De Niro’s character in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver.
A few years ago, those different interests began to converge.
Football gradually became the focus of his illustration, and over the past year he has developed a body of work exploring historic moments, legendary players and iconic shirts, taking images that already occupy a special place in football culture and reinterpreting them through his own distinctive visual language.
There’s a strong sense of nostalgia running through the work, but Eddy isn’t simply recreating familiar football imagery. His illustrations are playful and expressive, turning players into characters and remembered moments into something new.
In many ways, the connection between football and cinema feels completely natural. Both have their heroes and villains, their costumes and characters, moments of drama and images that stay with us long after they’re over.
For Eddy, it’s those images, the players we idolised, the shirts we remember and the moments we watched again and again, that provide the starting point.
Football, filtered through drawing, cinema and memory.
